2008 TOMATO PLANT LISTING

These are the varieties planned for this season.  Supplies are limited on some of the unusual ones.  Stop by early for the best selection.  Most will be ready to go the first week of May.

 

HYBRIDS

   
Big Boy-78 days.
Large, bright red, firm, meaty fruits weigh 1 lb or more.  Great taste and dependability.  A long time favorite for good reason.  Indeterminate.


 

 
Bull's Heart
This is a very old Russian variety bearing large pink oxheart tomatoes.  The flavor is very good with firm flesh and few seeds.  Strong plants bear fruit up to 2 lbs.
 

Bush Celebrity-67 days. 
(VFFNTASt) Abundant, large, flavorful fruits on plants just 15" tall mature a few days earlier than Celebrity. Glossy red fruits average 8 to 9 oz. with that famous Celebrity flavor that balances sugars and acids. This is an ideal variety for containers.

Carnival Hybrid-68 days.  
 
Sister to Celebrity with earlier and larger fruit.  Smooth, red and perfect.  Very compact but vigorous.  Determinate. 
 
 
 

Carolina Gold Hybrid--71 days
Medium large, nice, firm with excellent flavor.  Dark yellow gold. 
A superior yellow. 

   

 

Celebrity Hybrid--70 days
(VFFNTASt) Medium sized, globe-shaped fruits are crack-resistant and average 7 oz. Semi-determinate. Disease resistant. 

 

 

 

 

Fantastic Hybrid--65 days
VF  This is an old favorite that we had not carried for quite a few years.  It is back by popular demand.  Perfect globes, scarlet red, 3-5”, medium size fruits. Heavy yields make this a great choice for canning.  Indeterminate. 
   
 

Goliath Cluster Hybrid--65 days
A new variety, with bright red, flavorful, 4-5 oz fruits present themselves for select picking or cluster harvest.  They keep for up to 2 weeks.  Indeterminate.

   
Grape  Hybrid-75 days.  Ind. Just like at the grocery store.
 
 
 

Grapette Hybrid--75 days
Big clusters of little grape tomatoes.

Semi-determinate. 

 

   
Health Kick-72 days. 
Bright red Roma type tomatoes, with an extra kick of healthy lycopene.  Disease resistant.  A really good performer.
 
 
 

Heinz 1439 VFA--80 days
Developed especially for ketchup and sauces. Good disease resistance, with smooth, slightly flattened, 6 oz globes.  Determinate.  
   

   
Juliet Hybrid.-60 days.  Loads of 1 ½ inch long grape shaped tomatoes.  Twice the size of the little grape tomatoes.  Good for salads.  Indeterminate


 

 
Patio Kebab--55 days
A sweet little dwarf plant for a small container.  1 ½ inch size fruit.  Good taste.  Keep one near the grill!  Would be good to mix with herbs in a mixed container. 
 
   
 

Pineapple--85 days
Jumbo 5 inch across , super sweet , low acid flavor.  One of our most popular tomatoes.  Indeterminate. 

   
 

Shady Lady VFTA Hybrid--75 days
Well known in California as a farmers market favorite, this one grows well in other climates too.  Large, determinate plants with ample foliage to prevent sunburn.  Medium to large red round tomatoes with excellent flavor.
 

   

Snow White--75 days
Delightful pale yellow cherry tomato.  Delicious to eat right off the vine.  Indeterminate. 
   
Sungold Hybrid Cherry-57 days.  Luscious, sweet yellow cherry.  I ate these all summer.  It was my favorite tomato last year.  They came early and were the last on the vine.
 
 
 

Super Marzano--70 days
VFNT Hybrid   Large 5 inch long paste tomato.  Fruit is high in pectin, giving sauce and paste natural thickness.  Indeterminate. 

 

   
Supersonic VF Hybrid-75 days. 
Large, dependable smooth red tomatoes. Vigorous vines.  Perfect shaped fruit.  Indeterminate. 
 
 
Sweet Chelsea-64days.
Jumbo size cherry tomatoes, with extra sweet taste, resist cracking better than most.  Vigorous vines.  Clusters of 15-20 fruit.  Harvest right up to frost.  Indeterminate. 


 

 
Sweet Million-60 days. 
An improved Sweet 100, this variety has the same great taste and yields.  Incredibly abundant clusters of 1 inch red fruit.  Indeterminate.
 
 

Ultra Girl -65 DAYS,  Semi-Det.  Semi-bush early plants.  No cracks, perfect red medium size fruit.  
     
     
     
     
     
 

HEIRLOOMS:

   
Amish Paste-74 days.  Ind.  Dates back to the turn of the century.  Deep red and much larger than regular paste tomatoes up to 8 oz in size.  Not overly acidic. Indeterminate.  A good performer even in bad tomato weather.
 
 

Big Rainbow-90 days. 
Heirloom bicolor beefsteak can weigh 2 lbs or more.  A golden orange tomato with ruby red radiating from the blossom end.  A beautiful variety with good, sweet flavor.  90-100 days.


 

 
 

Back from Tulsa--75-80 days
Russian heirloom .  Deep reddish brown beefsteak with a rich, sweet flavor.  Weighs 8-12 oz.  Very productive. Indeterminate. 

   
Black Cherry-65 days.  Ind. The first black cherry.  A curious novelty.  Mild flavor.
 
 
Box Car Willie-80 days. 
This old timer produces prolific yields of smooth, reddish-orange fruits averaging a large 10 to 16 oz.! With an old-fashioned flavor you'll remember from childhood, these tomatoes will last throughout the season and are ideal for canning, freezing, or for home-cooked meals. Crack-free and disease resistant.

 
 
 

Red Brandywine--90 days.
Scarlet-red, gourmet sister to regular Brandywine.

 


 

 

Black Krim--75-90 days
Russian heirloom. Dark brown red tomatoes are large in size and richly flavored.  Color is darker in hot weather.  Indeterminate. 
   
Cherokee Purple-80 days 
Tennessee heirloom. Productive plants bear loads of 10 oz dusky rose/purple fruit. 


 

 
Dixie Gold Giant--85-100 days
Amish heirloom from the 1930’s.  Huge, delicious, fruity flavor with few seeds.  1-2 lbs size.  Very vigorous.  Indeterminate. 
   
German Red Strawberry-85 days. Ind.  Red oxheart.  Average size only 10 oz, but some will reach 1 lb.  Meaty with an excellent acidic taste.  Good flavor reports from customers.
 
 
Goldie--85-95 days
Heirloom 150 years old.  Vigorous vines produce extremely large beefsteak type tomatoes.  Low acid with good sweet flavor.  One of our favorites.  Indeterminate. 
   
Green Zebra-75 days. 
Unusual, bright green fruit .  Small with good tomato taste.  Determinate. 
 
 
Jim Benton's German Johnson-80 days. 
Our own variety given to us by a customer.  Very large, dark pink beefsteaks with just the right acid sugar balance for the best tomato taste. Dana’s favorite.  Indeterminate.
 
 
Kellogg's Breakfast-80 days.  Ind.  Deep orange color on 1 lb beefsteak type fruit.   Meaty with few seeds.  Juice has the same bright color as orange juice.
 
 
Mexico-80days. 
Very large plants produce and excellent batch of large fruit. Holds up well in bad weather conditions.  People really come back for this one.  Brought into the U. S. by a Mexican family living in the Midwest.  Indeterminate. 


 

 
 

Opalka--75 days. 
Heirloom paste tomato from Poland.  Large 5 inch fruits, shaped like a banana pepper.  Very few seeds with a rich, sweet flavor.  Great for sauces.
  Indeterminate. 

   
Pineapple-85 days. Ind.  Enormous yellow with dark pink stripes up through the flesh.  Low acid. Sweet as sugar. Grows to 5 inches and more.  Juicy.
 

 
Roma-75 days.  The classic paste tomato.  Perfect for sauces or canning.
 
 
Snow White-75 days. Ind.  Pale yellow, almost white cherry.  Very delicious.
 
 
Tidwell German-75-80 days.  Ind.  I found these on the internet originally from David Pendergrass of Tennessee.  They have been growing it since the 1920’s.  Pink, meaty 1-2 lb beefsteaks.
 
 
Ukraine Bulls Heart-80-90 days.  Huge, solid.  Dark pink with few seeds.  Our seed stock came from the family of my sister’s foreign exchange student.
 
 
Yellow Pear-78 days.  Ind.  Big productive plants make more than you can use.  Little bottle shaped tomatoes sweet as sugar.  Some old recipes use them in jams.
